Assistant/Associate Professor -Sustainable Civil Infrastructure Systems

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks to hire an assistant/associate professor in the area of sustainable civil infrastructure systems.  This hire is the fourth in a multi-year, thematic cluster hire.  This individual will provide strength in the theory and application of advanced technologies and strategies to assist in the design, management, testing, and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure systems.  We seek individuals that can provide innovative solutions to national issues of concern including:  critical civil infrastructure preservation and rehabilitation, sustainable infrastructure materials, lifecycle sustainability, pavement engineering, personal mobility and safety; smart growth; risk analysis and economic development.  Particular areas of interest include geotechnical engineering and transportation systems.  We anticipate the successful candidate will build research collaborations within the department as well as throughout the campus.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has 23 full-time, tenure track faculty members, 107 graduate students, and 355 undergraduates.  The department’s research expenditures exceed $6M/year.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a civil engineering discipline (degree by September, 2012) or a closely related field.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
