Team Green Latrine Strikes Again

Team Green Latrine is competing in the UMass Innovation Challenge Competition. The team is advised by Dr. Caitlyn Butler, CEE Assistant Professor. The Team members are Joe Goodwill and Cynthia Castro, CEE graduate students and Katie Fox and Sally Miller graduate students in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning.   In addition to earning $1,000 for winning the MinutePitch competition in October, Team Green Latrine won an additional $1,000 for their performance in the ElevatorPitch competition this past Tuesday.

The Microbial Fuel Cell Latrine was created by Butler and funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Butler and her team traveled to Ghana in May to install the first Microbial Fuel Cell Latrine. The Team would like to use their winnings to return to the small village of Agona Nyakrom  in Ghana and check on this experimental prototype.

The Green Latrine is also featured in this UMass NEXT story.
